(march 4, 2007) THEY CAME FROM BELOW (the aliens, I mean)
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . This is the cover of my new book THEY CAME FROM BELOW coming out this June from TOR books.
It is my first book about aliens. I am psyched. My aliens are not like any aliens you have read about before. They are peaceful, silent blobs that live in tiny crevices at the very bottom of the ocean. One thing they do do, is they listen to us because they have super good hearing and can hear anything that happens on earth even though they live like, three miles underwater. Weird, huh?
The story begins when one of them gets hurt by some radioactive pollution and he drifts up to the surface and washes up on Cape Cod where he is hustled away by local authorities. Then some other aliens try to rescue him. And of course they can CHANGE INTO whatever they want to so they come as young guys and befriend some teenage girls who try to help them find their friend.
My favorite thing about the book is the idea that the aliens have been listening and observing everything that has happened on earth for millions of years. They know every human language plus all the "languages" of all the other species. To them, our human speech is no different than birds calling to each other from the trees in the morning. Everything on the earth communicates it turns out. Even plants. Even viruses.
Naturally, the aliens have some very interesting observations about what humankind is really about, what our real role on the planet is.
